Sergei Eisenstein. Autobiography
Director Oleg Kovalov
Countries Russian Federation
Duration 86 min
Synopsis
The film is dedicated to the centenary of cinema and the centenary of Sergei Eisenstein's birth, and is based on Eisenstein's memories. The film's plot is a long journey abroad, begun by Eisenstein in 1929. We see altered episodes from Eisenstein's and his contemporaries' films, as well as rare archived material with scenes by Eisenstein himself. We merely hear Eisenstein reminiscing, sometimes extremely personally. All this reflects the great director's inner world during the tragic years of two Russian revolutions and Stalinist terror. The events and characters shown in the film highlight the special place held by Sergei Eisenstein in twentieth century culture.
