Bright Leaves

Duration 107 min
Synopsis
In North Carolina, more tobacco is produced than in any other North-American state. This film depicts a journey through this state's social, economic and psychological terrain, guided by a director who was born there and whose grandfather created the famous brand of tobacco known as Bull Durham. “Bright Leaves” is a subjective and autobiographical reflection on cigarrettes and their troublesome legacy for the state of North Carolina. It is about loss and preservation, addiction and denial. “Bright Leaves” explores the notion of inheritance – that which one generation leaves for the next – and how this can be a particularly complicated subject, especially when we are talking about the South and tobacco.
