The cities of Recife and Seville are marked presences in the work and emotional memory of the poet, João Cabral de Melo Neto. The first is his birthplace, whilst the second is his adopted land. In Recife, he was born and spent the whole of his youth. In Seville and Barcelona – where he lived and carried out diplomatic functions for many years –, he lived his full poetic and existential maturity.
