'999' was filmed in Macau, Tokyo, Beijing and Taipei between September 1999 and April 2000. Editing took place betwen July 2000 and March 2003. Memory deposits geography as sediment. Emotional distance causes both to erode. '999' is an investigation (or what rests of it) into the intersection of personal memory with a historical event and with geographical distancing. It is the result of a work of escavation and reconstitution of fragments of a path, for which the map was lost after becoming important. A strictly defined act of thought, therefore.
