Synopsis
On Sept. 5, 1942, a transport arrives to Estonia. Several dozen young women are separated from their families. The girls soon form a tight-knit group; bonds stronger than camaraderie develop. Their living conditions steadily deteriorating, they refuse to admit this to themselves, employing a “collective way” of coping with extreme conditions. Escape is unthinkable, since they have been warned that their parents will pay the price if they try. Those who attempt so do not fare well, like Inge in an astonishing story of concentration camp Romeo and Juliet, an SS commander and a beautiful Jewess. Acting as a single organism, through friendship, mutual help, youth and naivety the young women ignore death around them to survive, only to come to a shocking discovery, on Sept. 5, 1945, in Sweden.
