Co-produced with VBStv (Spike Jonze, Creative Director), Rock Under The Red Flag (RUTRF) chronicles the Birthday Boyz, an NYC rock band, during their music tour deep into the Chinese underground music scene. While big-ticket international acts routinely play the government sanctioned metropolitan shows, RUTRF follows the Brooklyn quartet as they traverse thousands of miles by train to discover the rock communities of the South. In a heavily censored country (restrictions were recently put in place to prevent foreign bands from entering China), cross-band interviews, exchanges and taped live performances reveal an illuminating portrait of a burgeoning alternative music scene. Raw, illegal and DIY, RUTRF presents a thoroughly convincing and authentic account of rock under the red flag.
