Synopsis
In the heart of West Africa, in one of the poorest regions of Togo, there is a place called Defale, home of the lamba. This documentary narrates the daily fight and the dreams of three people whose common link is the Hulmen Center, created in 1990 by two Spanish missionaries to promote the local development. Everything began under the shadow of a teak, where Naka learned to embroider a future for herself and her family. Neri, an orphan boy, found a home and the chance to survive. Cecile left behind a past of abuse to aim for a new life.
Hulmen means "light". The lamba people believe that inside everyone shines a light, and they have a proverb: "If we all bond our lights, just imagine the brightness".
