Synopsis
SALONICA portrays Thessaloniki at the crossroads of historical, cultural lines: Byzantium - Western Europe, Orient - the Balkans, Macedonia - the Mediterranean region. For 450 years, it was mainly Jewish, until devastation by the Germans in 1943. Against this background, the film tells of the city’s modern reality, interviewing most different people. It also narrates of the power and burden of the past, of personal and cultural loss and of the individual and collective search for an identity.
