Synopsis
The last days of Shishmaref is a documentary about three Inupiaq families who are living just below the polar circle in Alaska. Within one or two generations their traditional lifestyle of subsistence will come to an end. By filming three families during their daily life, in winter and summer, a much more tragedy will become visible. For years the Eskimos of the settlement Shishmaref are living in a nightmare: because of the Global Warming their island will be swallowed by the ocean. Underlie the story of the film is about a clash of cultures and universal themes like identity and transcendence.
