Duration 80 min
Synopsis
On the official Web site of the Brazilian Environmental Institute (IBAMA), the brazilwood (pernambuco wood) appears on the list of plant species threatened with extinction.
Being found only in the remnants of the largely devasted Atlantic Rainforest in the coastal forests of Brazil, this tree has been vital in the manufacture of fine violins bows and other instruments ever since the time Mozart was composing his masterpieces in Vienna.
From the search for the wood in the forests of Brazil, to their use by the world's greatest symphony orchestras, the film explores a path to saving the trees, and saving the music that depends on it.
The future of classical music rests on the future of an imperiled tree.
