Sinopse
Rain falls on the windshield and the wipers sweep it away rhythmically: we pass by a cityscape, flat and endless. A womans voice talks about building her own house. In this film essay, road trips through Mexico City weave together stories of autonomous home building, planned and unplanned urban development, and the politics of property rights. Both the people and the city tell of the continuous process of self-building as a form of self-assertion and a strategy for survival. Celia Caturelli travelled several times to Mexico City between 2009 and 2011. With a small film team she examined the phenomenon of informal urban development, informal urbanism and urbanization in various areas of the city. The urban explosion of this megalopolis comes across the stories and minimal portraits of the protagonists in a set of images and sounds.
