Sinopse
In the 17th century, the Russian Orthodox Church began to tear apart. Old Believers could not agree to a reformed ritual. They viewed the changes as the devil’s work. Millions seceded from the official church and were strongly persecuted by the state. Shortly after the schism, many of the faithful were imprisoned or burnt to death. In order to save the faith of the ancestors, Old Believers fled to remote areas. Now some of them live in isolated villages such as Ust-Tsilma, carefully preserving the traditions of the past. Ust-Tsilma is a village in the Komi Republic, Russia, located on the bank of the Pechora River, about 100 km from the Arctic Circle. Old Believers lead there a quiet life out of public view and keep distant from worldly matters. Just people who live so close to the Lord... But change is coming whether they want it to or not. Maintaining their medieval traditions becomes to be challenging for Old Believers. It cannot last forever…
