Sinopse
The ceremony, Documentary - 85 minutes, A film by Avi Weissblei and Eliran Knoller, Synopsis, April 2012. Mount Herzl near Jerusalem. The time: 19:50., Col. David Rokni, glances at his watch and approaches the Speaker of the Knesset, requesting his permission to open the Independence Day ceremony. Three networks are broadcasting it live on radio and TV, so if we switched channels we would still receive the same transmission. The ceremony will start. Again, the soldiers will march in various formations, those selected to light one of the traditional torches will speak excitedly and fireworks will again illuminate the large square around the tomb of Herzl. On days where phrases such as Zionism, Israel and Unity lose their meaning, we shall all, for a moment, again feel the sense of pride emanating from deep within the mountain, and for a moment, again, all feel that we're Israelis., But this year this unity has shown some cracks: during rehearsals for the ceremony, a lighting bridge collapsed, and with it all sense of pride and joy. IDF Lieutenant Hila Bezalel was killed and reality reared its ugly head again, only a few meters from the tomb of the visionary of the state of Israel., The Ceremony follows four months in the life of Col. David Rokni. At 80 years of age, no worthy replacement has been found for him as military master of ceremonies. He is the one to sketch meticulously the formation of soldiers in accordance with to the annual theme. We follow him from planning through to execution, from the house in Ramat Gan through to arduous auditioning of soldier-participants: the indecisions, the tough drilling under the blazing sun, through to the parade grounds on Mount Herzl. We find that what starts out as yet another ceremony under his command will change his life forever, and that this might be his last ceremony in uniform., In this film, which combines moments of laughter with an unexpected tragedy, and together with the minor characters, especially the late Lt. Hila Bezalel, we will embark on a road discovering the elements Isrealism is made of, how soldiers cope with the drilling, and what happens in an unexpected tragedy - must the ceremony go on at any cost, and how can one march and be merry after such a tragedy?, When the light of fireworks illuminates our heroes, we will halt for a minute and look at the reality around us. Is it possible to continue regardless? Or is the ceremony perhaps already over?
