Portrait of the Viennese singer-songwriter Bernhard Schnur, who achieved cult status in the 1990s with his indie pop band Snakkerdu Densk. Several years after the band's breakup and a long-term creative hiatus, Schnur started 2008 a struggling solo career. Reinhard Liegler and Bernhard Hofinger of the Viennese video production group Okto visited the musician in his tiny, substandard flat and accompanied him for nearly a year: strolling through the streets of Vienna, performing at local pubs and neighbourhood festivals and at a reunion concert with his former bandmates from Snakkerdu Densk and Irish star singer-songwriter Glen Hansard. When you all sleep, I'm awake is the portrait of a man living against the grain and void of all comfort and security for following his dream of making music.
