Sinopse
Chris Berens is widely considered one of the most promising Dutch artists of his generation. His work has a remarkable style. He paints his dreams, which are full of happy ghosts, fluffy animals and members of his own family. His style can best be described as a cross between the Old Dutch Masters and Japanese Manga., In his own unique way he creates a challenging atmosphere in which you feel comfortable one minute, but uncomfortable the next, as if something is about to happen. His paintings, invite you to dream away and imagine what could be. Will it change everything for the better... or the worse?, In his work Chris Berens (1976) uses the images from his fantasy world., In his imagination he has been seeing three-dimensional creatures moving around him since his childhood. These deformed, exotic creatures are re-created in his paintings. There they reside in what he calls ‘magic landscapes’. They make him think of the mystery-driven landscapes in his home province Brabant. He is familiar with fairy tales and the mystic stories old farmers tell about insoluble things that are happening in the short period in between day and night. His paintings are, at the same time, familiar, peculiar and sinister. Quite often they are, illuminated by the beautiful, yet mysterious light of the old Dutch Masters. In this documentary we show Chris searching for inspiration in Tokyo. Having an exhibition in Japan is one of his greatest wishes.
