Sinopse
Agnieszka Piotrowska, an award winning documentary filmmaker, re-visits her first film Men of Steel made for the BBC in 1990. That film was made for the 10 birth of Solidarity. 20 years on, Piotrowska makes a more personal film-essay about the nature of history and the nature of documentary filmmaking. She re-visits the heroes of her first film, including Lech Walesa, although obtaining a new interview is a challenge. A young collaborator, artist Kuba Pieleszek attempts to create a sculpture/painting which is the portrait of the Solidarity leader. The film looks also at the choices people made during the time of the political oppression in Poland and since. Totalitarina regime aroused fear but cotemporary Poland is full of contradictions too, brough about by neo-liberalism. There are no easy solutions it seems. The film also features the international artists who performed at the concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the anniversary of Solidarity, including Rufus Wainright.
