Sinopse
Maria Occhipinti (1921-1996), a rebel of the past century. Communist, then anarchist, forerunner
of feminism, pacifist, stateless for necessity, Maria has tied her destiny to the facts of the “We
Won’t Leave” movement occurred in Sicily in 1945 after the new conscription. Five months
pregnant Maria doesn’t hesitate to throw herself in front of the wheels of a military truck to stop
the round-up of the young draft dodgers. For this dramatic protest she has been imprisoned, then
confined in Ustica and for all her life on the files of the Italian police as a subservive. Condemned by
her own family and by the communist party, who purposely renounce her memory, she decides to
leave Ragusa and travel the world with her daughter. Many years later, as an aged woman, she
returns to Italy and gives her last public speech in 1987 in Comiso against the installation of cruise
missiles.
