Journey of the Cake is the story of migration, cake-making, wealth, poverty and five generations. Today, many of those who run bakery shops and patisseries in Turkey are from HemÅŸin in the northeast Black Sea Region. In the 1800s, their grandfathers went off to Russia for work, working in bakeries and patisseries and learned the secrets of bread and cake making. After a while, they opened their own shops and patisseries. 1917 October Revolution was the breaking point for many families who returned home penniless. In the film, grandfathers make their appearance in the photos, and their aging children tell their own stories.
