Sinopse
Back in 2001, the UN and the world's largest independent child protection agency Save The
Children conducted interviews with 1,500 children from refugee camps in West Africa. They
discovered "a widespread culture" and a "disturbing number of cases” of sexual exploitation.
The report contained victims’ accusations against 67 aid workers from more than 40 aid
agencies, including UN peacekeepers and high-ranking international aid agency officials. The
children said they had to trade sexual favours for food, shelter, clothing, education and
medicine.
We investigate the legal, psychological, cultural and political background for the alarming
number of abuse cases. We will find that the lawless, defenceless and speechless situation of
refugees who are exposed to the goodwill of their “helpers” paves the ground for the atrocities.
We will show how the UN and international aid agencies try to suppress press reports and
independent investigations concerning refugee abuse.
