In the middle of nowhere, forsaken by the great Russian Federation, the small village Future (Buduscheje) is covered by the snow of the harsh Russian winter. The presidential election is in full swing, but prospects for Future have been better. Many people have left Future, looking for jobs or a better life. Some say Future will soon be no more. But in a few huts there is still light when night falls over the white landscape… Ana is fighting her own fragile body, every step leaves her short of breath. Viktor is waiting for his son, who has once again ventured out into the night to drink. Juri is a widower and is confronted with loneliness every now and then. He tries to drive it away with his accordion. Sergej and Wasja have recently retired and have returned to their hometown. They want to stay here as long as the village still exists. As long as there is life in Future! A both cheerful and melancholy farewell to a village on the outskirts of modernity. An ode to transience.
