Sinopse
"The Shores of an Island I only Skirted" is a film consisting of a prologue and two parts. The two parts share the same soundtrack - which repeats halfway through the film. The first part shows a matter of fact recording of the island Utøya, Norway, where Anders Breivik attacked a socialist youth camp in july 2011. The second part is a collage of found footage from the internet, telling the story of immigrant boats traveling the ocean to the beaches of Europe. It includes footage shot by immigrants themselves while at open sea. The two parts - which we view as two sides of the same coin - are connected through the soundtrack which features quotes that all speak of the idea of an Utopia. Traditionally utopia is envisioned as an island, in our film it could be the utopia of a Europe where the streets are paved with gold, and the utopia of Breivik, a mono cultural, racially pure Norway (represented by an empty island).
