Sinopse
This documentary follows three remarkable Filipinos living and working on Smokey Mountain, a huge and dangerous garbage dump in Manila. Their personal stories of despair, hope and joy are told by using the subjects voices as narrative, with scripted voice-over to clarify context. Its an earthy, naturalistic and intimate portrayal of marginalized people barely surviving in extremely difficult conditions, yet managing to work and live with dignity as scavengers amidst the trash to support their families.
This film aims to communicate with the audience on an intellectual and emotional level: initially alarming vieers because of the appalling conditions in which the subjects have to live; then building anxiety over one young familys especially vulnerable situation; and finally concluding with an uplifting and inspirational message that confirms the human spirits enduring ability to triumph over extreme poverty and adversity.
