RAISING RESISTANCE is a film about the resistance against the more and more aggressively expanding production of genetic soy in South America. 80% of the soy production is used as animal food in order to satisfy the excessive meat consumption in the rich countries. For the small farmers in Paraguay this means: displacement from their land, loss of basic food supply, in plain terms: the fight for survival. However, since a few years there has been a growing resistance among the oppressed rural population that threatens to escalate further. RAISING RESISTANCE illustrates the mechanisms of a global economy that to an increasingly great extent acts according to the cynical maxim: Privatise profits, socialise losses. The film describes the consequences of such a system that leads to destruction of nature and violent conflicts among people, and raises the question of whether we, the global community, really want to go on living like that: a minority at the expense of the majority.
