Not Without You is an intimate portrait of the elderly artist couple Ger Lataster and Hermine van Hall, filmed by their son and daughter in law. The documentary depicts the last year that the seriously ill Hermine and Ger live together. They constantly stumble - thanks to Ger's deafness and Hermine's dementia - over misunderstandings that drive them to desperation. Art is their remaining save haven. Ger tries to keep on painting whereas his muse loses track of things. After Hermine’s death returning to painting becomes a matter of survival for Ger. The film is an ode to love and the power of art.
