NGOs, city administrations and publishers worldwide switch to FSC-certified paper. Ordinary consumers can buy copy and printing paper as well as paper towels and even wallpaper bearing the tree logo. But is the paper's green image justified? FSC is known as the best label for sustainable products from forests, like paper. But we don't hear about the frustrations and complaints, coming from local communities near these FSC 'forests'. In BR An-Katrien Lecluyse and Leo Broers, started to write an article for Mo* magazine but ended up with making this documentary about the story of Veracel, the paper mill FSC never should have certified. The documentary caused a lot of indignation. Landless farmers, INns and local NGOs reported on numerous environmental crimes and conflicts caused by Veracel. Even the Belgian FSC chairman had to admit that Veracel did not deserve the certificate. “Veracel clearly is an example of an undeserving certificate owner.”…
